Sikasso

The sites

• Mamelon, a hill located in the downtown area. A sacred place where, in the time of the kings, a “guardian spirit” lived.

• The tomb of Tiéba Traoré, who became king in 1866 and built the “Tata.” He signed an alliance with France and defied the armies of Emperor Wassoulou.

• The palace of Kélétigui Kourouma Berthé, constructed in the Djenné architectural style. He was commander-in-chief of the armies of Tiéba and then Babemba.

• The Missikoro Grottos, 12 km from Sikasso, a place of syncretistic worship, with the East reserved for indigenous religions, the West for Christians, and the South for Muslims.

• The Tata, an impressive wall surrounding the city.

• Farako Falls, 25 km from Sikasso, where the water flows over a series of rock ledges.

• Koniko Falls, 15 km from Sikasso: an impressive spectacle, especially during the month of August.
