Dear
Friends and Partners of Mali
2003
marks the 25th anniversary of Mali's diplomatic presence in Canada.
Indeed, it was in 1978 that the first Malian Ambassador to Canada
opened chancellery offices at 50 Goulburn Avenue and took up residence
at 12 Park Road in Rockcliffe.
Since that time, Canada has been a leader within the International
Community in building a special relationship with Mali.
Mali, a young State but an old country, quickly saw the values
that underlie Canada's foreign policy: a world view based on a
strong commitment to peace and justice and to fairer trade between
rich and poor countries.
The cooperation that exists between Canada and Mali-two countries
rich in their collective cultural diversity-today represents a
wonderful example of the North and South joining forces to reduce
poverty, eliminate disparities between men and women, deliver
basic health services, and provide children with schooling.
As part of these efforts, Canadians have for decades travelled
Mali's savannah, plains, and Sahara Desert and crossed its rivers
and mountains to share their expertise while, at the same time,
expressing the affection they feel toward our people.
Through its actions, Canada is also helping strengthen Mali's
young democratic institutions. Mali is now known for the vitality
of its democratic process, which is marked by internal peace and
security and by the harmony and tolerance existing among its population
groups; Mali was a Nation long before becoming a State.
The type of fruitful cooperation that Canada and Mali have forged
represents the most effective means of promoting human development.
Welcome to the Embassy of Mali's website. We invite you to visit
Mali-a country where peace and joy reign.
